What is Amyloidosis?
Amyloidosis is a rare disease in which misfolded proteins (amyloid) accumulate in organs and tissues. These deposits can impair the normal function of various organs. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial for disease progression.
Rare Disease
Amyloidosis affects only a few people and is often diagnosed late.
Multiple Types
There are different forms such as AL, AA, ATTR amyloidosis with different causes.
Early Detection Important
The earlier amyloidosis is detected, the better the treatment options.

Heart, kidneys, nerves and other organs can be affected.

World Amyloidosis Day 2026 – participants wanted for a roundtable

World Amyloidosis Day takes place on October 26, 2026. For this year’s edition a roundtable discussion is being recorded that focuses on the role of family members and caregivers in amyloidosis. The Amyloidosis Alliance is still looking for participants.
- Wanted: a person affected by amyloidosis together with a family member or caregiver
- Topic: the role of the caregiver and how the disease affects their relationship and everyday life together
- Both participants need a very good command of English
- The Amyloidosis Alliance arranges flights and hotel and covers the costs
Schedule and contact

Amyloidosis information event in Lucerne – November 14, 2026

We warmly invite you to the «Amyloidosis» information event, taking place on Saturday, November 14, 2026, from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Lucerne Cantonal Hospital. From 8:45 AM we welcome you with coffee and croissants.
- Talks by leading specialists on cardiac amyloidosis, current and future therapies, and cardiac imaging
- Exercise with amyloidosis and being well supported through therapy
- Followed by light refreshments and a personal exchange with the speakers at Restaurant Feingut
- Free of charge and wheelchair accessible – one accompanying person per patient is welcome
